Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, 2 because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death. (Romans 8: 1-2)
1. Law of the Spirit who gives life — set us free from sin and death.
2. Law of sin and death — In Christ we have the ability to overcome sin, but we are in the process of overcoming since we still have a lot of bad habits, flesh, old self, strongholds, which still strangle us.
* Jesus Christ gives us life.
* The law of the Spirit gives us life.
* The Holy Spirit set us free.
Key point:
What can truly set us free is that through the revelation of the Holy Spirit, by the correct application of spiritual law, our lives can be released from the law of sin and death, and we can truly have the power to overcome and live a victorious life.
As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins, 2 in which you used to live when you followed the ways of this world and of the ruler of the kingdom of the air, the spirit who is now at work in those who are disobedient. 3 All of us also lived among them at one time, gratifying the cravings of our flesh[a] and following its desires and thoughts. Like the rest, we were by nature deserving of wrath. (Ephesians 2: 1-3)
After we believe in Christ, we have God’s words, God’s spirit, the Church, and members of the church draw us closer to God from the world, the spiritual powers and the flesh. This is a war.
What is the law of the Spirit? Why is it so important for us?
The law of the Spirit is a spiritual principle extracted from the Bible.
1. Spiritual laws, like physical laws are established by God when He created the universe, will not change. Through the revelation fo the Holy Spirit, the law of the Spirit may release great power to enable us to live a holy life after we believed in the Lord, and can set us free.
2. After we believed in Christ, in the NT “power” is emphasized because this power comes from the Holy Spirit. When we live under the law of OT, we don’t have the power to live out what the law requires of us.
When we want to love people, but we can’t, because we don’t have the power to do so. There’s something inside that binds us. We can’t cut it off. We need to depend on the power not from us, that is, the power of the Holy Spirit. The power of the Holy Spirit (law + revelation of the Holy Spirit + power of the Holy Spirit) allows these entanglements and bondages to be released. This is to give us life, "to give us life" is to give us the life of Jesus Christ, so that the life of Jesus Christ in us can be really lived out.
3. We need to grow mature in the Spirit. To understand more about spiritual law and apply it into our lives so that our lives can be lifted up and transformed. We can receive more from the Lord and overcome more in every aspect of our lives.
4. Satan uses legalism to change the words of the Bible to laws to lead people to religion and death. When we surrender to a habit, a tradition, we think we are spiritual. Only do we apply the laws by the revelation of the Holy Spirit, we can be set free.
Sin will have its effect in the spiritual realm. We will bear the consequences if we don’t deal with the spiritual matters by the spiritual laws.
Example: dealing with abortion in the spiritual realm, idol worship before believing in the Lord. Depression
DEAL WITH THE ISSUE IN THE SPIRITUAL REALM FIRST, THEN DEAL WITH THE HABIT.
The spiritual laws
1. The law of the altar - the altars are spiritual passageways/gate.
2. The law of repentance - Fill the gaps in the spiritual realms through true repentance by the blood of Jesus Christ. Repentance is a daily act, not a once for all action.
3. The law of faith and obedience - we must pray and act in faith and God will respond.
4. The law of holiness - the law of cleansing in OT. In NT we have the blood of Jesus Christ to cleanse, protect us.
5. The law of worship - sacrificial worship in OT.
6. The Law of spiritual warfare - Book of Joshua
7. The law of financial blessing
How to apply the spiritual law in our lives?
1. Pray to have the revelation of the Spirit to find out what happened in the spiritual realm
2. Use the spiritual law to deliver and heal (apply the blood of Jesus Christ, repent)
Conclusion
Our spiritual logic has to change from the one of the laws and the world, to the one of the Spirit.
We need to learn the spiritual law from the Bible and apply them into our lives so that we can be cleansed through repentance and be set free from the bondage of our lives.
